Fences built by the owner, not a crew

No salesperson, no rotating crew — Ryan measures, sets every post, and hangs every panel himself, on-site daily until it’s done.

Fence types we install

Wood privacy fences

Cedar, redwood, or pressure-treated pine — board-on-board, dog-ear, or custom. Posts set in concrete; 15–20 years with sealing. Altadena’s most popular choice.

Wrought iron and ornamental metal

Open, elegant, and decades-durable. Common in San Marino, Pasadena, and La Cañada Flintridge; custom sections welded on-site.

Vinyl fences

Vinyl fence installation is one of Altadena’s most-requested jobs — no painting or sealing, won’t rot, warp, or fade. Privacy, picket, and ranch-rail styles, posts reinforced so they don’t lean.

Aluminum fences

The wrought-iron look without the rust or upkeep. Powder-coated, pool-friendly, and racks to sloped lots — popular in Altadena and Pasadena.

Galvanized or vinyl-coated, for side yards, dog runs, and utility areas.

Custom gates

Swing, sliding, automated, and pedestrian gates — heavy-duty hinges, with steel frames inside wood gates so they don’t sag.

Why fences fail (and how Ryan prevents it)

The four shortcuts Ryan never takes: shallow post holes, posts spaced too far apart, cheap rusting hardware, and skipped sealing.

Fencing on Altadena’s hillside properties

Stepped runs, racked panels, and fence-and-retaining-wall combinations for severe grades. If your lot has a slope, Ryan has built on one like it.

From old fence to new

Full teardown first — old posts pulled, footings dug out, the line prepped clean. If your existing posts are solid, Ryan tells you instead of replacing what doesn’t need replacing.

Common questions

How much does fence installation cost in Altadena?
Wood fence installation typically costs $25–$50 per linear foot. Wrought iron runs $30–$60. A standard 150-foot residential fence ranges from $3,750 to $9,000 depending on material, height, and terrain. Custom gates add $500–$3,000+.
Do I need a permit for a fence in Altadena?
Fences under 6 feet generally don't require permits in Altadena. Fences over 6 feet, or fences in certain setback areas, may require LA County permits. Ryan handles permit coordination when needed.
What type of fence lasts longest in Altadena's climate?
Vinyl and aluminum last the longest with the least upkeep — a quality vinyl fence holds up 20–30 years with no painting or sealing, and powder-coated aluminum won't rust or corrode. Cedar and redwood handle Altadena's Mediterranean climate well too, lasting 15–20 years with sealing every 2–3 years. Wrought iron lasts decades with periodic rust treatment. Ryan walks you through the tradeoffs so you pick the right material for your budget and look.
How long does fence installation take?
Most residential fence projects take 2–5 days depending on linear footage and terrain. Hillside properties may take longer due to stepped or racked designs. Ryan gives you an exact timeline with your estimate.
Can you install a fence on a slope?
Yes. Altadena has plenty of sloped properties, and Ryan builds fences on them regularly. Depending on the grade, he'll use a stepped (stair-step) or racked (angled) design. Both approaches keep the fence structurally sound while following the terrain.
Do you remove old fences?
Yes. Ryan removes and hauls away your existing fence as part of the project. Old posts are pulled, concrete footings are dug out, and the line is prepped clean for the new installation.
